Italian teenager Carlo Acutis, who passed away in 2006 at the age of 16, was canonised on Sunday by Pope Leo XIV in the Vatican. The same day, a church in his name, the first in the world, was blessed in 'God's Own Country,' Kerala.
Archbishop of Verapoly Dr Joseph Kalathiparambil blessed the newly built church at Kochi's Pallikkara on Sunday. The church will have weekly services on Sunday and Tuesday.

Archdiocese Kalathiparambil noted that the life of St Carlo Acutis would inspire young people who seek to combine spirituality with modern technology and that the newly opened church is expected to lend further momentum to this movement. Acutis, who passed away due to cancer, had dedicated his life to documenting the miracles of saints and catholic teachings, and used to run the website miracolieucaristici.org. He was born in 1991.

How to reach the church?
From Kakkanad in Kochi, take the route to the WonderLa Amusement Park in Pallikkara (Take the Muvattupuzha Road, not the Hill Palace route). The St Carlo Acutis Church is less than a kilometre from WonderLa, on the Thekkady-Ernakulam Road.

Fr Sojan Micheal, the in-charge of the church, said that the novena of St Carlo Acutis will start soon in the church. "The preparations for the same are in progress. The church also possesses the blessed relic (hair) of the saint, and we are already receiving indications from believers on how their intercession requests are being fulfilled. Therefore, the novena will begin soon," he said. St. Carlo, who positively utilised new-age media, can be an excellent example for youngsters, he added.
