Devasahayam Pillai is the first Indian layman to be conferred sainthood, according to the Congregation for the Causes of Saints in the Vatican.
Kattadimala aka Devasahayam Mount is rich in history and is also known for its windmills.
Pillai was born into a Hindu Nair family at Nattalam in Kanyakumari district, on 23 April, 1712.
