Governor Arlekar and LDF ministers fight over Bharat Mata

Agriculture minister P Prasad boycotted the world environment day function organised at the Raj Bhavan on June 5 objecting to the presence of the Bharat Mata portrait on the dais. Governor Rajendra Arlekar said the minister had repudiated Bharat Mata. But Prasad was objecting not to the idea of Bharat Mata but to the image Governor Arlekar had used to convey the idea of Bharat Mata. It has goddess in a maroon sari, heavily ornamented and carrying a saffron pennant. This is Sangh Parivar's imagination of Bharat Mata. But Bharatamba is imagined in million other ways in the country.
