Anakkampoyil–Kalladi Tunnel: Rock Blast Begins | Travel time between Kozhikode & Wayanad to reduce
- March 06 , 2026
Rock excavation for the Anakkampoyil–Kalladi Tunnel Road project connecting Kozhikode and Wayanad begins on March 6, 2026, marking a major step in one of Kerala’s key infrastructure projects. The first controlled blast for rock cutting will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at Marippuzha in Kozhikode.
The Anakkampoyil–Kalladi–Meppadi Tunnel Road will serve as an alternative to the Thamarassery Ghat (Churam) Road, which currently has nine hairpin bends and heavy traffic. Once completed, the tunnel is expected to reduce travel time between Kozhikode and Wayanad by 45–60 minutes, easing congestion and improving safety.
