Exhibitions, open house highlight of Science Week events

Karyavattom: The University of Kerala has organised several events on its campus here as part of the Science Week. Public lectures, exhibitions, workshops, demonstrations, film shows etc have been organised by various schools of the University.

Science Week is held to mark the National Science Day which is celebrated in India every year on February 28. The week-long events commenced on February 25.

At the open house, the university departments were kept open to the public so that they see and understand their ongoing works, advancements and achievements. The schools of Philosophy, Statistics, Physics, Future Studies and Computational Biology will be open to the public till March 2, the last day of the week-long event.

The Schools of Life Sciences, Business Management and Legal Studies, Earth System Sciences, Communication & Journalism, among others, took part in the open house.

The Department of Communication and Journalism showcased international newspapers and press equipment at an exhibition. The morgue of old newspapers included those from various countries and languages.

The demonstration of augmented reality, which is widely used in newsrooms world over, was appreciated by the public. More than 200 students from various schools have so far visited the department.

"There was satisfactory participation from the public. Several school students who visited the department gave good feedback about the exhibits. The event was organised with the combined effort of all the students and staff of the department," said Harikumar, the Head of the Department of Communication and Journalism.

The theme for the Science Week is "Science Communication For All".
