Apply now for Indian Statistical Institute programmes and Junior Research Fellowship

Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) is a premier higher education and research university which is recognised as an institute of national importance. The institute offers several under-graduate, post- graduate and doctoral programmes, not just in Statistics, but in other related subjects too.

The online applications for admission to these programmes for the academic year 2022–23 could be submitted until 31 March. Those interested may check the website www.isical.ac.in.

Interested candidates who complete their qualifying exams within 31 July 2022 can apply for the programmes. The selection would be based on the score of the written entrance test and the interview.

Headquartered in Kolkata, ISI has centres in Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Tezpur and Hyderabad. Stipends are granted to almost all the students who enrol here.

Entrance test
There are 38 centres around the country for the entrance test that has been scheduled on 8 May. There are centres in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi in Kerala and also in major cities like Coimbatore, Chennai, Bengaluru, Mangaluru, Mumbai and Delhi.

The main programmes and the monthly stipend

3-year B.Stat (Hons): There are 63 seats for this programme held at the Kolkata centre. The applicants need to complete plus two with Mathematics as a core subject. Stipend – Rs 5,000.

3-year B.Math (Hons): 63 seats at Bengaluru. The minimum qualification is plus two with Mathematics as main. Stipend – Rs 5,000.

2-year M Stat: 38 seats at Delhi. An undergraduate degree in any subject is enough to apply for this programme; Stipend – Rs 8,000.

2-year MS in Quantitative Economics: There are 56 seats in Delhi and Kolkata. The applicant could have any undergraduate degree as minimum qualificatio. Stipend – Rs 8,000.

2-year MS in Quality Management Science: 20 seats (Bengaluru and Hyderabad). Graduation in any subject is the eligibility. Stipend – Rs 8,000.

2-year MS in Library and Information Science: 12 seats are up for grabs at the Bengaluru centre. Candidates who have undergraduate degree in any subject could apply. Stipend – Rs 8,000.

2-year MTech in Computer Science: 45 seats (Kolkata); BTech or plus two with Mathematics as a main subject; Master’s degree in any subject after that. Selected candidates would get a monthly stipend of Rs 12,400.

Those who have excellent GATE score need not write the entrance exam. However, applications have to be submitted at the stipulated time.

2-year MTech in Cryptology and Security: 25 seats at the Kolkata campus. The qualifying guidelines are similar to the MTech Computer Science programme.

2-year MTech in Quality, Reliability and Operations Research: Apply for 32 seats at the Kolkata centre. The applicants should have a Master’s degree in Statistics or a Master’s degree in Mathematics with Stats as a main subject or BTech or equivalent professional qualifications (Physics and Chemistry is mandatory in plus two); Rs 12,400 would be paid as monthly stipend.

1-year PG Diploma in Statistical Methods and Analytics: 61 seats in Chennai and Tezpur; Undergraduate degree with Mathematics as a main subject or BTech/equivalent qualification.

1-year PG Diploma in Agricultural and Rural Management with Statistical Methods and Analytics: There are 18 seats for this programme offered at the Giridih, Jharkhand, campus. Applicants need to have a degree in any subject; however, they should have studied Mathematics or Statistics at plus two.

1-year PG Diploma in Applied Statistics: 30 seats are up for grabs; degree in any subject is enough. However, the candidates should have studied Mathematics as a core subject in plus two. It is an online course offered through Coursera.

Junior Research Fellowship
Junior Research Fellowship programmes could be done at the ISI in Statistics, Mathematics, Quantitative Economics, Computer Science, Quality Reliability and Operations Research, Physics and Applied Mathematics, Geology, Biological Science, Library and Information Sciences. The candidates would get at least Rs 31,000 as fellowship.
