UPSC Civil Services: Alfred strikes gold in his third attempt

OV Alfred was determined to enter the civil services as he wished to serve society. He proved his mettle by bagging 57th rank in the Civil Services Examination, 2021. His incredible success is an inspiration for all those who dream of a fabulous career in the civil services.

Alfred had scored 310th rank last year, but he turned the wheels around to score an impressive 57th rank. Interestingly, this was his third attempt. In the first chance, he couldn’t clear the Mains, but had come close to the cut-off mark. He got selected to the Indian Postal Services in his second attempt and joined the National Postal Academy at Ghaziabad on 21 March for training.

Alfred who completed graduation in Computer Science from Bengaluru Christ University, worked as a software engineer for a year in Delhi. He began mulling about a career in the civil services while studying for graduation.

To prepare for the high–profile exam, Alfred set a timetable that helped him cover the syllabus entirely. He didn’t allot more than 6-7 hours for studying in a day. Alfred says that he made sure to find time to watch movies and to play football.
