According to an official statement, Ministry of Railways has decided that recruitment to Indian Railway Management Service (IRMS) will be done through the Civil Services Examination to be conducted by the UPSC for the year 2023.
There are around 1,000 all-India seats for which at least 10 lakh candidates apply for the preliminary test. However, only around five lakh candidates normally appear for the prelims and among them, a miniscule percentage win.
The entire educational expenses of each student at NDA are met by the government. This includes accommodation, food, uniform, medical treatment and books.
The civil services examination is conducted annually in three stages -- preliminary, main and interview -- to select officers of Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and Indian Police Service (IPS) among others.
Around 150 personnel would be appointed based on the new examination conducted by the UPSC from 2023 onwards.
