Join Food Craft Institute in Kerala, admission open at 13 centres

Candidates who have passed Class 10 can now enter the food and hospitality sector by completing a 12-month training in food craft. This is especially beneficial for those who cannot join for the three-year bachelors courses in hotel management.

Hotels, restaurants, canteens, ships, airlines and large factories often hire employees who are trained in food craft.

The course involves 9 months of classroom sessions and three months of practical training in hotels. In most workplaces, food, accommodation and uniform would be provided free of cost.

Applications could be directly sent to the 13 centres of the Food Craft Institute that functions under the aegis of the Department of Tourism of the Kerala Government.

The last date of application is 11 July.

Selection process
The selection would be based on the marks scored by the applicants in Class Ten. Those who took more than three chances to pass Class Ten exams need not apply.

Meanwhile, those who passed Class Ten in second and third chances would lose 5 and 10 marks respectively in the ranking scheme.

Fees, other expenses
The fee could be paid in two instalments, in the beginning and in November this year. Besides, Rs 400 should be additionally paid in the beginning. The students have to purchase the uniform themselves.

How to apply
The application form and the prospectus could be purchased from any centre by paying Rs 100. Meanwhile, it is Rs 50 for Scheduled Caste/Tribe candidates.

The form could be downloaded from the website www.fcikerala.org. Those who download from the website should take a demand draft of Rs 100/Rs 50 from an SBI branch, that could be cashed in the name of Principal, Food Craft Institute.

The filled–in application form, along with the necessary documents, should be submitted at the centre where the candidate wishes to study. The courses should be mentioned, in the order of preference, in the application form.
