Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala’s Public Service Commission (PSC) has decided to make written tests mandatory for appointments in all posts. Authorities said that henceforth, no rank-list will be prepared based on the interview alone and appointments made from it. Exceptions would be given only in unavoidable circumstances, they said.

So far, the PSC has not been holding exams for posts with very few vacancies. Instead, it was preparing rank-lists after conducting an interview. The total marks for the interview are 100. However, the PSC authorities now feel that interviews cannot scientifically evaluate the knowledge of a candidate accurately like an exam.

“We will decide whether to conduct OMR, online or descriptive tests for each category of vacancies. Presently, PSC has the technical infrastructure to hold exams for up to 20 posts a day,” said an officer with PSC.

Another move of the PSC is to block the profile of applicants who fail to appear for exams after giving confirmation.

Meanwhile, the PSC announced the list of this year’s exams. As many as 1,015 tests will be conducted for 760 categories in 2023. Common exams for Class 10, Plus-Two and Graduate-level posts will take place later during the year.
