Last week the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) published next year's calendar for various examinations conducted by it. The Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2024, has been scheduled to be held on May 26. Exactly one year is ahead for preparation even as several candidates are ready to take the Civil Services (Prelims), 2023, which is set to be held on May 28.

“For Civil Service aspirants, it’s not enough to learn everything, he or she should be also adept at expressing that knowledge. Questions should be answered in three different styles in each of the three stages of the examination. During Prelims, you will get choices, almost similar in meaning, as choices. One should derive the meaning of all the words in no time and also be careful to avoid careless mistakes. In Mains, while answering, the candidates have to hit the bull’s eye with minimum words, but to the point. While attending the Personality test, one should be careful not to indulge in any war of words with the Interview Board, but strike a meaningful conversation with the members. And it requires immense practice to deliver all these.”

These are the words of Pathanamthitta District Collector Dr Divya S Iyer, IAS, who wrote in the Malayalam Manorama Career Guidance series back in 2019, seven years after she cracked the UPSC Civil Services Examination.

For those dreaming to serve the nation as an IAS officer, these words are much inspiring. Won’t you have many more queries on your mind on how to reach that big goal? Here is an opportunity to directly interact with Dr Divya S Iyer during the summer camp conducted by Manorama Horizon, the online education portal of Malayala Manorama.

Dr Divya will conduct the class on May 19.

Others who will take the classes on various topics as part of camp to be held from May 15 to 19 are Anand Justin, Senior faculty of Fortune IAS Academy, Thiruvananthapuram; career guidance expert P L Jomy; Kerala Police Cyberdome team and Radio Mango R J Neena.
