The rank list of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Under-Graduate), 2023, is out. Many on the list are anxious about securing admission or if at all they get one the chances of a seat in a college of their choice are difficult.

However, a look at the last year's ranks on the list of who got admission would provide an idea of if they would get in this year. But the difference in the number of seats and the changing interests of candidates could alter the trend this year.

The are two means to estimate the last rank that could get admission:

1. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC)'s website has the details of the last ranks in each round of admissions to MBBS/BDS/BSC (Honors) NUrsing courses to various institutions under different categories.

For instance, visit the link, http://mcc.nic.in - UG Medical Counselling - Archives - FINAL RESULT FOR ROUND 1 UG 2022, for the list of candidates allotted seats in the first round. Likewise, the list of candidates who got through the following rounds, too, could be accessed.

2. Another way to have an idea is to check the list of successful candidates who were down on the list. However, the national-level NEET ranking would not be exactly applicable in Kerala. For instance, those ranked 47, 79, 88, and 97 in the pan-India NEET ranking were ranked 1, 2, 3, and 4 for admission in the State.

The chart provided here reflects the ranking of those admitted to MBBS and BDS courses under each category the previous year. The first chart is NEET ranks on the National Testing Agency (NTA) list. The second chart is the same students' Kerala state ranking.

MCC counselling to All-India Quota

The Medical Counselling Committee (www.mcc.nic.in) under the Union Health Ministry conducts general, single counselling for  MBBS/BDS/BSC (Honors) Nursing courses. The following are included in the MCC counselling"

1. Counselling for 15 per cent all-India quota in government-run medical and dental colleges.

2. Counselling for admission to AIIMS at different centres, deemed universities, central universities (Banaras Hindu, Delhi, Aligarh), Vardhman Mahavir Medical College in New Delhi, AB Vajpayee Institute, ESI Corporation Medical Colleges including the one at Parippally in Kollam (IP Quota), JIPMER (Puducherry, Karaikal), Jamia Millia (dental), and BSc (Honors) Nursing in central institutes.

Pune Armed Forces Medical College (First round only).

The information bulletin on the MCC website has information on institutes and the number of seats under each category. The counselling for AYUSH (Ayurveda, Homoeopathy, Siddha, Unani) and veterinary courses will be through the websites https://aaccc.gov.in, and https://vci.admissions.nic.in, respectively.

NB: Selection to bachelor's level courses in Agriculture is not based on the NEET score. It is done through the ICAR entrance exam: http://icar.nta.ac.in

Institutes charging lesser fee

The All-India Quota will help in pursuing MBBS anywhere in the country for a lesser course fee. Several institutes provide the course for a lesser fee: AIIMS, including the one at New Delh; Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi; Lady Hardinge Medical College (Women's), Delhi; Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh; University College of Medical Sciences, Delhi; Vardhman Institute of Medical Sciences, Nalanda (Bihar); Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal (Manipur); and Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Adilabad (Telangana), are some of them.

For more information, visit the link, "UG Counselling - Participating Institutions", on the MCC website (https://mcc.nic.in).

Admission in Kerala

The ranking criteria are the same for admissions (excluding All-India quote) to MBBS, BDS Ayurveda, Homoeopathy, Siddha, Unani, Agriculture, Veterinary, Fisheries, Forestry, BTech Biotechnology in the Kerala Agriculture University, BSc (Honors), and Co-operation and Banking / Climate Change and Environmental Science courses.

The entrance commission will prepare a separate list for state-level admissions after checking the overall NEET ranking. Students should clear NEET to pursue MBBS overseas as well.
