New Delhi: The National Testing Agency (NTA) will soon kick-start the process for conducting the national-level engineering and medical degree entrance examinations.

The first session of the Engineering Entrance (JEE Main) will be held in the third week of January, followed by the second session in the second week of April, officials said.

The registration of candidates for the first session will begin next week. The medical entrance examination (NEET-UG) is scheduled to be held on May 5, and registration for the same will begin by the last week of January.

The authorities, meanwhile, have also decided to hold the undergraduate degree entrance examinations (CUET UG) at the earliest. This year, the examinations began on May 21. As against the earlier announcement that these examinations would conclude by June half, they could be completed only by June 23. The delay, attributed to an extension of the deadline on two occasions, caused a further lag in bringing out the results, which were published only by mid-July.

It is against this backdrop that the authorities have decided to advance the date of these examinations from the next academic year onward. The plan is to kick-start the examinations by the first week of May and publish the results by the end of June.
