Thodupuzha's Newman College celebrates 60 years of excellence

Thodupuzha: Newman College in Mangattukavala here celebrated its Diamond Jubilee on Monday.

The college, which was established in 1964, is affiliated under Mahatma Gandhi University in Kottayam.

West Bengal Governor Dr C V Ananda Bose inaugurated the function. In his speech, the governor promised to present an Excellence Award with a cash prize of Rs 50,000 to a student who has graduated from the college. He also mentioned his desire to establish a sister institution for Newman College in West Bengal.

"Sixty years of educational excellence, growth, and transformation was commemorated in a grand celebration. The college is planning to organize 60 activities for students as part of our Diamond Jubilee celebrations," said Principal Dr Bijimol Thomas.

The event was presided over by Bishop Mar George Punnakottil. Veteran Congress leader P J Joseph, V Rev Msgr Pious Malekandathil, College Manager; Rev Dr Paul Parathazham, Higher Education Secretary of the college; Principal Dr Bijimol Thomas and Vice-Principal Dr Saju Abraham also took part in the event.

Extracurricular activities and dance performances were also organised as part of the event on Monday.
