Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala University (KU) is preparing a new curriculum to introduce four-year bachelor’s degree courses in all colleges in the coming academic year. Workshops will take place in the colleges and other centers under the university for five days in December to discuss the formulation of the new curriculum for all subjects.
The university has also instructed the heads of all boards of studies to ensure the participation of international academic experts, including Nobel laureates, in all subjects at the workshops, either personally or online.

Approval in February
The proposed curriculum would be result-oriented. The content would be revised by 20 percent every year to incorporate fresh developments. KU’s Academic Council is expected to give final approval to the new curriculum in February 2024. Subsequently, all faculty members will be given a two-day training before April. An online helpline desk will also be set up at the university to enable doubt-clearance. The four-year undergraduate courses with the new syllabus will start in all colleges during June and July.
A new exam pattern
Meanwhile, KU has decided to implement all the recommendations of the Exam Revision Committee. Among the major changes are reducing the duration of the written exam to one to two hours and conducting the practical exam as an internal test. Results would be declared based on continuous evaluation. Questions will be based on a question bank made available to the students in advance.
