Thiruvananthapuram: The digital version of the school textbooks to be introduced in Kerala from the 2025-26 academic year as part of the curriculum revamp will be an online facility where students can engage in self-learning and self-assessment.
In other words, the digital textbooks to be released along with regular books will not be simply a ‘soft copy.’ Instead, they will have audio-video content, for which a specialized platform will be arranged. The digital textbooks will also have attractions such as interactive quizzes, enabling students to test their knowledge on their own.
Another highlight of the digitalization initiative is the distribution of instruction booklets for parents and guardians along with textbooks at the beginning of the academic year. The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT)-Kerala has prepared three booklets – one each for guardians of students in lower primary, upper primary and high school.
These booklets explain how guardians should interact with children and include tips on helping the students in their physical and mental growth. Instructions on the emotional empowerment of youngsters are also a part of the booklets, which were prepared based on the advice of expert psychologists, dieticians and doctors.
Meanwhile, the instruction booklets for teachers would be distributed at the training sessions conducted during the summer vacation.
