Kappa biryani with sausages


Kappa biryani is one of the most iconic dishes of the quintessential Kerala cuisine. Check out this unique recipe of delicious kappa biryani with sausages in it.

1 kg tapioca
A pinch of turmeric powder
Salt as required
6 sausages
1 onion
5 cloves garlic
Small piece ginger
¼ tsp turmeric powder
3 tsp coriander powder
1 tsp chilli powder
A pinch of garam masala
¼ tsp black pepper powder
Salt as required
Curry leaves as required
For the tempering
Coconut oil
Mustard seeds
Dried chillies

Boil the tapioca with some turmeric powder
Drain and mash it well
Wash the sausages and pat it dry
Heat oil and fry the sausages until they are cooked on all sides
Cut the fried sausages into small pieces
For the gravy
Heat oil and sauté crushed garlic and curry leaves
Add onions and salt as required
Sauté well
Now add turmeric powder, coriander powder, chilli powder, black pepper powder and garam masala
Sauté until the raw smell is gone
Pour some water and mix well
Add the sausage pieces 
Cook for 3-4 minutes with the lid on
Now remove the lid and cook until the gravy thickens up nicely
Add this gravy into the mashed tapioca
Lower the flame and cook for some more time before turning off the flame
Heat coconut oil in another pan and splutter the mustard seeds
Add the curry leaves and dried chillies
Add this tempering into the kappa biryani
Mix well and serve hot.
