Special toor dal biryani

Hardcore biryani lovers are ready to experiment with a variety of ingredients and flavours to nail the perfect plate of biryani. Toor dal biryani is a favourite of vegetarians. Here is the recipe for delicious toor dal biryani.

1 cup basmati rice
¼ cup toor dal/yellow lentils
2 potatoes
2 onions
1 cup oil
1 tbsp ghee
½ tsp cumin
½ tsp ginger paste
½ tsp garlic paste
½ tsp green chillies (crushed)
½ inch cinnamon
1 black cardamom pod
¼ tsp turmeric powder
2 cups water
1 tsp salt
½ tsp garam masala (optional)
1 tbsp coriander leaves

Soak the rice and toor dal for 30 minutes
Heat oil and fry the potatoes and onions
Heat ghee in a pan
Add cumin, ginger paste, garlic paste and crushed green chillies
Sauté for 30 seconds
Into it add cinnamon, black cardamom and turmeric powder
Now add the soaked toor dal and rice
Pour 2 cups water and add salt as well
Mix well
When the water begins to boil, reduce heat and cook until water reduces
Into it add fried potatoes, onions and garam masala
Mix well
Garnish with chopped coriander leaves
Enjoy the delicious toor dal biryani with refreshing yoghurt raita.
