Traditional chakkakuru-muringayila curry

The jackfruit season is on and our menus will now fill with various jackfruit dishes. Check out the recipe of a delicious curry made with jackfruit seeds and drumstick leaves.

2 cups jackfruit seeds (cleaned and cut into slices)
3 green chillies (sliced)
¼ tsp turmeric powder
Salt as required
1 cup grated coconut
1 tsp chilli powder
¼ tsp coriander powder
¼ tsp turmeric powder
½ tsp cumin seeds
¼ cup chopped raw mangoes
2 cups drumstick leaves (washed)
1 tbsp coconut oil
½ tsp mustard seeds
1 tbsp shallots (chopped)
2 dried chillies (split)

Cook the jackfruit seeds with green chillies, turmeric powder, salt and some water
Grind the grated coconut with chilli powder, coriander powder, and turmeric powder and cumin seeds into a smooth paste
Add the coconut paste, raw mangoes and drumstick leaves into the cooked jackfruit seeds
Mix well
Bring it to a boil
Take it off the flame when the dish is nicely done
Meanwhile, heat coconut oil in another pan
Splutter the mustard seeds
Add the shallots and the dried chillies
Sauté well
Add this tempering into the jackfruit seed -drumstick leaves curry
Mix well and keep aside for a few minutes
Serve this tasty dish with rice or chapathi.
