Rich and spicy prawns theeyal

Spicy and fragrant prawns theeyal tastes fabulous with soft puttu. Adding a pappadam for the crunch would make it a filling and heart warming meal. Check out the fairly simple recipe of delicious prawns theeyal.

Ingredients
½ kg fresh prawns
1 ½ cups grated coconut
2 tbsp coriander seeds
8 dried chillies
1 sprig curry leaves
¼ tsp fenugreek seeds
1 tbsp coconut oil
2 cups shallots
4 green chillies
¼ cup coconut shards
1 tbsp crushed ginger - garlic
Curry leaves as required
½ tsp turmeric powder
Gooseberry sized ball of tamarind
Salt as required

Preparation
Clean and de vein the prawns
Dry roast the grated coconut, coriander seeds, dried chillies, curry leaves and fenugreek leaves until brown in colour
After the mixture has cooled down, grind it in a mixer jar until oil begins to separate
Heat coconut oil in an earthen chatty
Sauté the sliced shallots, coconut shards, green chillies, curry leaves and crushed ginger - garlic
Into it add turmeric powder and the cleaned prawns
Add the grinded coconut mixture, some water and tamarind water too
Add salt as required
Mix well
Close the lid and cook until the gravy thickens
Enjoy the tasty prawns theeyal with rice, puttu and chapathi.
