Covid | Utilise the schemes of Ayurveda dept, says doctor

Kochi: Services of the Covid preventive schemes launched by the state government Ayurveda department should be utilised to the maximum, Thrippunithura Government College Hospital RMO Dr Jeeja Sasi has said.

The Ayurveda hospitals are providing medicines to boost the immunity of people while taking into account any diseases they might have, Dr Jeeja Sasi said in reply to the questions of readers during the Malayala Manorama’s ‘Santhwanam’ programme.

The health department has also launched the Punarjani scheme for post-Covid health issues.

"Ayurveda has been giving beneficial results in remedying post-Covid health issues. The medicines and services via Ayurveda dispensaries are completely free. Those who are not able to directly come to the hospitals can avail the telemedicine services of the Thrippunithura Government Ayurveda College Hospital," Dr Jeeja Sasi said.

5 schemes

The Ayurveda department has launched five schemes in the state as part of Covid preventive measures. Ayurraksha (the scheme that provides free Covid preventive medicine for those aged below 60), Sukhayushyam (provides preventive medicine for those above 60), Amritham (treatment scheme for those in quarantine), Bheshajam (treatment for Covid patients in Category A) and Punarjani (scheme for post-Covid health issues). The public can avail these services for free from the Government Ayurveda hospitals.

Dr Jeeja Sasi also said that the 'Sumana' OP clinic is functioning at the Thrippunithura Ayurveda College Hospital for mental health issues linked to Covid or otherwise.

Triphala Choornam

Those with a sore throat can use Triphala Choornam, which includes Amla, Haritaki and Vibhitaki. Mix it in lukewarm water along with salt to gargle. Or, mix turmeric powder and salt in water and use it to gargle.

Chyavanaprasam and Indukantha Kashayam are good for boosting immunity. But only after checking the cholesterol and blood sugar levels, these should be consumed regularly.

Shadangam Kashayam, Guluchyadi Kashayam, Dashamoola Kshatrayam, Sudarshanam Gulika, and Vilwadi Gulika can also help in boosting the immunity. However, it is advisable to take the medicines only after consulting the Ayurveda doctor to assess the health condition of each individual.
