Young actor Sara Ali Khan entered the glamourous world of Bollywood as a celebrated star kid. She has been able to carve a niche for herself in the industry with a handful of impressive performances. Her life has always been in the limelight as her parents are noted Bollywood actors Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh. However, from childhood onwards, Sara has struggled with obesity and has often been a victim of body shaming. She underwent a massive physical transformation by reducing her body weight to 45 kg from 96 kg before entering the film industry.

What inspired her to lose weight?
Sara made some bold decisions about her life while studying in New York. Getting an offer to star in a Karan Johar movie inspired her to change her lifestyle. Until then, pizzas, popcorn and triple chocolate brownies had been her favourite food items. Sara has often confessed that she could eat pizzas for all her meals. “I never believed that I could have a better future. So, I thought to at least enjoy food. When I weighed 85 kg, I thought what difference would it make even if I am 96 kg? However, later I understood that was not the right way to face obesity,” Sara has said in her interviews.

What did she give up?
Sara began experiencing incredible changes in her life as soon as she started following a healthy diet. She gave up her favourite pizzas and brownies; instead included fruits, vegetables, protein and whole grains in her regular diet. Sara even became mindful of the quantity of food that she consumed. Chicken, eggs and vegetables became a staple in her diet. Food that is low in carbohydrates and rich in protein helped her reduce weight healthily and consistently. A slice of toasted bread and egg whites were her breakfast. She even enjoyed soft idlis and dosas too. Her lunch was quite simple with chapati and salad with dal or vegetable curry. Sara completely avoided sugar, milk and carbohydrates from her diet.

It was not just a healthy diet that helped Sara reduce body weight. She consistently worked out at the gym to get her body toned. The first few days at the gym were quite hard for Sara. She was troubled that she wasn’t able to do anything at the gym. However, Sara made sure to regularly visit the gym and tried hard to do something more than the previous day. She mostly relied on cardio exercises to reduce her weight. Besides, the actress does strength training, Pilates and yoga to stay fit and healthy.

The diet that didn't work for her
Most people are confused about what to eat after a workout or gym session. Greek yoghurt with some protein powder and coffee is Sara’s favourite post-workout meal. The starlet has often admitted that the keto diet didn’t quite work out for her and that it is right to enjoy a cheat meal once a week. She eats fresh cucumbers in case she craves to snack. Sara couldn’t remain complacent after reducing her weight significantly. She still follows a strict diet and workout regimen to stay in shape. Sara knows that she could put on weight easily if she is not careful about her lifestyle. So, Sara now focuses on staying on track to be healthy and fit.

Weight is not the focus
Sara says that her body used to experience many changes when she put on weight. In her opinion, more than looks one should focus on health while trying to shed weight. Reducing body weight really helped in achieving good health as Sara suffered from PCOD. There is no permanent solution to treat PCOD. However, bringing a positive change in the lifestyle could be helpful in controlling or reducing the symptoms of PCOD. Sara’s life and her weight loss journey are truly an inspiration for those who are trying to reduce weight and fight health problems like PCOD.
