Bollywood writer-director Tahira Kashyap reveals that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer again, after her first diagnosis in 2018. Sharing the diagnosis, she wrote on her online page, "Ironically or not, today is World Health Day. Let's  do whatever we can to take care  of ourselves, gratitude through and through." Tahira, who was just 35 when she was diagnosed the first time, had debuted as a director with the 2024 movie Sharmajee Ki Beti. It was a stage zero, non-invasive cancer called ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS).

She hasn't revealed details of her diagnosis this time. However, she suggests everyone take mammograms regularly. "Round 2 for me, I still got this. Seven-year itch or the power of regular screening - it's a perspective, I had like to go with the latter and suggest the same for everyone," she said on her Instagram page.

What her suggestion means
All women aged 40 should get regular mammograms every two years till they reach the age of 75, according to the Cleveland Clinic. If you are at a higher risk, it's also advised to get it before you turn 40, or even more frequently, as per the suggestions of your doctor. Whole breast ultrasound, breast MRI and breast cancer risk assessment tests can also be performed to check whether you are at a higher risk.

Here are a few of the other factors that indicate whether you are at risk:
1) Personal history of the cancer
2) Family history of breast or ovarian cancer
3) Inherited mutated genes like BRCA1 and BRCA2
4) Noncancerous, benign breast diseases like atypical ductal hyperplasia
5) Dense breasts
6) It can also occur in males rarely (1 in 100), due to family history.
