The Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) on Sunday sent a notice to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, seeking documents to substantiate his claim that a woman had voted twice.

The CEO said the requested material would assist in conducting a comprehensive investigation. Gandhi had displayed certain documents at a press conference in New Delhi last week.

"You have also stated that as per the records given by the polling officer, Smt Shakun Rani had voted twice... On inquiry, Smt Sakun Rani has stated that she has voted only once and not twice, as alleged by you," the notice said.

According to the letter, a preliminary probe by the CEO’s office found that the polling officer did not issue the tick-marked document presented by the Congress leader.

"Therefore, you are kindly requested to provide the relevant documents based on which you have concluded that Smt Shakun Rani or anyone else has voted twice, so that a detailed inquiry can be undertaken by this office," the notice added.
