COVID-19: Kerala logs 16,338 fresh cases, TPR soars to 23.7%

Thiruvananthapuram: Daily COVID-19 cases continue to rise in Kerala with 16,338 fresh positives reported on Friday.

The Test Positivity Rate (TPR) in Kerala soared to 23.7% after 68,971 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.

Active cases as well increased to 76,819 as less than 4,000 (3,848) recoveries were recorded on the day.

COVID-19 fatalities reached 50,568 after 20 recent deaths and 179 previously undocumented ones were made official by the health department.

Of the fresh cases, 15,228 had contracted the virus through contacts while the source of infection remains unknown in 859 and 116 healthcare workers were also infected on the day.

Health Minister Veena George said that even as the number of cases were rising, only 4.4% of the active cases were hospitalised.

 

Vaccination status
So far 82% (2,18,70,333) of the eligible population in Kerala has been fully vaccinated while 99.48% (2,65,70,010) has received their first doses.
