Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala reported 885 new COVID cases and 1,554 recoveries on Sunday.

This is the first time since July 2020 that daily COVID cases in Kerala dropped below 1,000.

With this, the number of active COVID cases in the state fell to 8,846.

So far, 64,44,624 have been cured of the disease.

Of the new cases, 826 contracted the virus through contact while four came from outside the state and 14 are healthcare workers.

A total of 21,188 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.

Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam and Kottayam districts reported the most cases - 131, 122 and 88 respectively.

The southern state also reported 15 deaths which took the toll to 66,808, according to a government release.
Of the deaths, 2 were reported in the last 24 hours, 4 were those which occurred in the last few days but were not recorded due to late receipt of documents and 9 were designated as COVID-19 deaths after receiving appeals based on the new guidelines of the Centre and the directions of the Supreme Court, the release said.

There are currently 25,685 people under observation across the state.

Of them, 24,766 are under home or institutional quarantine while 919 are in hospitals.
