Kozhikode: The Juvenile Justice Board dismissed the bail plea of one more accused in the Shahabas murder case. The accused, a Class 10 student of GVHSS Thamarassery, has been ordered to remain at the observation home for boys in the Social Justice Complex, Vellimadukunnu, until March 15.
The court further directed the Superintendent of the observation home to provide the necessary facilities for the student to appear for the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examinations. The District Child Protection Officer was assigned with the responsibility of facilitating the exams.
The detained student was allegedly involved in a clash between school gangs and was among those who attacked the deceased student of MJ Higher Secondary School.
Five other students from the same school have already been apprehended. They are currently in the observation home at the Social Justice Complex in Vellimadukunnu after the court denied them bail.
On Monday, the five accused students wrote their first SSLC exam amid protests by right-wing student organisations and the Youth Congress. Due to the opposition, the authorities were forced to set up an exam centre inside the Social Justice Complex. The accused will remain in the observation home until March 15.
The incident that led to the detention occurred in the early hours of last Saturday when Shahabas (16) succumbed to injuries sustained during a brutal attack by students from GVHSS Thamarassery. The clash between the two gangs took place on Thursday evening.
