Kambalakkad: The price of broiler chicken continues to nosedive in Wayanad district. Traders cite the increase in local production and an uptick in procurement from Tamil Nadu as reasons behind the price drop.

While a 1kg of chicken was priced at ₹200 just two days ago, it was sold for a mere ₹120 at a shop in Kambalakkad town on Monday. Traders say the price would drop further in the days to come.

Though the price had dropped in chicken farms a fortnight ago, the retailers didn’t follow suit then. However, when a trader in Kambalakkad reduced the price, many retailers in other places also brought down the price below ₹200. However, customers complained that many traders did not reduce the price even on Tuesday.

Chicken price has dropped substantially after many months. It was sold out in hours in shops where the price was lowered.
