Kollam: About 87% of children under five received the pulse polio vaccine in Kollam district on Sunday. According to estimates, 1,21,321 children in this age group were administered the vaccine.
The Health Department set up booths across various Primary Health Centres, Taluk and District Hospitals, Government Victoria Hospital, as well as at bus stands, railway stations and Anganwadis. Children of migrant workers were also included in the vaccination drive. Those who missed the vaccine will be covered on Monday, as health workers plan to visit their homes directly.

The district-level inauguration of the vaccination drive was carried out by Kollam MLA M Mukesh at Victoria Hospital, with District Collector N Devidas presiding over the event.

U Pavithra, Chairperson of the Health Standing Committee at Kollam Corporation, Deputy District Medical Officer A R Sreehari, RCH Officer Dr Linta Joseph, State Observer Dr Veena Saroji and Government Victoria Hospital RMO Dr Roy also spoke at the event.
