Stench, fish kill return as wastewater enters Thulicherry fields

Kannur: Wastewater has once again flowed into the Thulicherry fields, triggering a massive fish kill and spreading a sharp stench across the entire region.
The incident came to light on Thursday morning after residents noticed the increasingly foul smell. Locals said the waste water, which included sewage, entered the area through a nearby drainage channel. As the contaminated water continues to seep in, the wells in the region have been rendered completely unusable.
According to residents, waste water regularly enters the fields from hospitals and hotels in the vicinity. A similar situation had occurred three months ago, resulting in a major fish kill in the Thulicherry stream. The locals had earlier lodged complaints with the District Collector, highlighting the recurring dumping of waste water. They had also submitted complaints to the Mayor, the Pollution Control Board, and the Health Department, but to no avail.
All drainages from Chenoli Lane near Kakkad Road ultimately open into the Thulicherry stream.
