Thiruvananthapuram: R Archana, a candidate in the Kerala local body elections who was forced to cut short her campaign following the death of her father, has emerged victorious with a record margin.

Contesting on a UDF ticket from the Gandhi Smarakam ward of Andoorkonam panchayat in Thiruvananthapuram district, Archana secured a decisive majority of 414 votes.

Archana could not engage in the final round of campaigning as her father, Vasudevan (75), of Anayikonam House in Velloor, passed away on December 5, four days before the election day, December 9.

Having won her second election, Archana is being actively considered by the UDF for the post of the president of Andoorkonam panchayat, which has been captured by the front this time.
