FIFA President Gianni Infantino said the world body will help in rebuilding Gaza's football infrastructure destroyed in two years of bombardment by Israel. Infantino pledged FIFA's support following Monday's peace summit at the Red Sea resort in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt.

"It’s something that is really important for FIFA to be here to support, to help, to assist, to make sure that this peace process comes to fruition," Infantino said. He signed a document that outlined plans for regional stability.

More than 67,000 Palestinians were killed in Israeli attacks in the last two years, including about 400 footballers. Earlier this year, the Palestinian Football Association said that Israel destroyed more than 130 football facilities in Gaza.

Infantino has claimed FIFA would help restore the sport in Gaza and other Palestinian territories. "Football’s role has to be to support, to unite, to give hope. We will help to rebuild all the football facilities in Gaza, bring football back together with the Palestinian Football Association, and create opportunities for children through the game."

FIFA aims to contribute to constructing mini pitches and arenas, with Infantino claiming that other partners would be asked to join the efforts.
