Red Bull's Formula One driver Yuki Tsunoda walked away unhurt from a massive crash during qualifying for the Grand Prix at Imola in Italy on Saturday.
Footage of the crash shared by F1 showed the Japanese driver's car smashing into the tyre wall, being lifted in the air, flipping, and landing upside down. Fortunately for Tsunoda, the car righted itself up on impact, and he climbed out immediately.
Tsunoda was reportedly taken to the circuit medical centre for checks, though he appeared to have survived the crash without any visible injuries. In May 1994, legendary F1 driver Ayrton Senna was killed in a crash at the Imola Circuit.
The qualifying session was halted for 15 minutes following the crash. Though the track was cleared soon after, red flags were waved as Alpine's rookie Franco Colapinto crashed.
The Argentine's car lost control after moving onto the grass. It spinned and hit the barrier head-on, smashing the front suspension. Meanwhile, Oscar Piastri of McLaren took pole at Imola. Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc were eliminated in Q2.
