Aralam Butterfly Village aims to transform Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary into a leading butterfly conservation area.
Earlier, the Forest Department had captured a bison that had entered a residential area in Maruthayi, Mattannoor. But, locals later alleged that this animal was released near human settlements in the Aaralam forest.
Dragonfly surveys in Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary have identified 103 butterfly species.
Every photograph featured in the exhibition, organised by the Aralam Wildlife Division and the Malabar Awareness and Rescue Centre for Wildlife Conservation (MARC) in Iritty town as part of Forest-Wildlife Week celebrations, is from Savitha’s personal collection.
The move comes after years of sustained efforts by butterfly enthusiasts and forest officials.
As per the Forest Department’s data, there are about 80 tigers within the 344 square kilometres of Wayanad Wildlife sanctuary.

Aralam is considered the lifeline of Kannur and another attraction at the sanctuary is Ambalappara, its highest point at 1,576 m.
