Four people were killed in a stampede on Saturday, which was organised without the permission of the authorities.
Kochi City Police Commissioner A Akbar said no official requisition was received from the university for police help.
The possibility of outsiders entering the auditorium during programmes held at night cannot be ruled out.
DCP Sudarsan added that such programmes are very common on the campus and CUSAT officials have not filed any application seeking police force for the event.
The university has suspended the classes at the School of Engineering, for three days.
