Kottayam's favourite 'roadside tourist attraction' Nalumanikattu, which has been popular for its green paddy fields and traditional food stalls, is getting an 'upgrade'. The food stalls in Nalumanikattu have acquired a five-star rating from the FSSAI (Food Safety and Standard Authority of India) and will be inaugurated at 6 pm today. The location is on the Manarcaud - Ettumanoor Bypass Road, 10 km from Kottayam. 24 women run the 12 food stalls, serving traditional Kerala food items from 11 am to 8 pm starting tomorrow. The Manarcaud - Ettumanoor Residents Association, which transformed this once-marshlands where people dumbed garbage into a cool wayside hangout spot, is behind the initiative.

How to reach?
You could enter the Manarcaud – Ettumanoor bypass from Kottayam via Manarkad and Eranjal in Thiruvanchoor. Nalumanikattu is 9.3 kilometres from the Kottayam railway station via Manarkad and 8.7 kilometres via Eranjal. From Ettumanoor, enter the Ettumanoor – Manarkad bypass and travel towards the Manarkad side to reach Nalumanikattu, 8.1 kilometres away. The location is available on Google Maps.

Tourists please note...
Nalumanikattu was established as a model for effective waste management. So, the visitors, too, have the responsibility to refrain from dumping waste here. The paddy fields are still under cultivation, so do not throw waste in them. As this place is just beside the road, make sure to park the vehicles without causing trouble to other vehicles. You could scan the QR code fixed near the food stalls to express your opinions about the quality and taste of the food.
