Kerala Tourism endorses virtual travel through cooking

ramassery idli

Kerala Tourism is encouraging its followers to take a "trip at home" and "travel later" in their latest video but not without a tantalizing alternative.

"Is your heart craving for soft, piping hot Ramasseri Idli? When you have all the time in the world, why not try your hand at cooking them from the comfort of your home," they wrote.

The video is a snippet from an old video where a lady from Ramassery Idli Kada (Sree Saraswathy Tea Stall) in Palakkad is seen preparing their famous Ramassery idli using a traditional method.

Ramassery idlis are typical of Palakkad region in Kerala and can be easily confused with dosa because of their unusually flattened shape.

It is said that a Mudaliar family, which moved to Ramassery from a Tamil Nadu village were the inventors of this popular dish. This family claims an ancestry of over 100 years of making Ramassery idli.
