Across India, 75 redeveloped Amrit Railway Stations will be inaugurated via video conferencing by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, July 17. Nine of these stations come under the Southern Railway and six of them are in Kerala. The main function of the event will be held at Jalandhar Cantonment Railway Station in Punjab. Ceremonial functions will also be held at all these stations and the main function will also  be live-streamed at all stations.

The stations which will be inaugurated on Friday in Kerala are:
1. Tirur (Palakkad Division)
2. Thalassery (Palakkad Division)
3. Parapanangadi (Palakkad Division)
4. Nilambur Road (Palakkad Division)
5. Chalakudi (Thiruvananthapuram Division)
6. Angamali for Kaladi (Thiruvananthapuram Division)

The other three stations are:
1. Chennai Park (Chennai Division)
2. Chinnasalem (Salem Division)
3. Coonoor (Salem Division)

What is an Amrit railway station?
It's a railway station that has been redeveloped and modernised under the Amrit Station Scheme, which was launched in December 2022 by the Ministry of Railways. It aims to transform over 1,300 stations into modern hubs with multimodal integration and future-ready facilities.

In Southern Railway, 115 railway stations have been identified for redevelopment under the Amrit Station Scheme, of which 24 redeveloped stations have already been inaugurated by the PM. With the inauguration of nine redeveloped stations on Friday, the total number of Amrit Stations dedicated to the Nation under Southern Railway will increase to 33.

The new Kerala stations
Tirur Railway Station 
The station on the busy Shoranur–Mangaluru corridor is the gateway to Kerala's literary heritage and the birthplace of Thunchaththu Ramanujan Ezhuthachan, the father of the Malayalam language.

Redeveloped at a cost of about ₹26 crore, the station now features modern waiting halls, lifts, escalators, upgraded platforms, improved accessibility and enhanced passenger amenities, offering a safer and more convenient travel experience.

Thalassery Railway Station 
An important gateway to North Kerala, Thalassery Railway Station has been redeveloped at a cost of over ₹22 crore with renovated station buildings, upgraded platforms, air-conditioned waiting halls, lifts, improved circulating areas and enhanced passenger facilities. The redevelopment complements the town's rich heritage while strengthening tourism and regional connectivity.

Parpanangadi Railway Station
Serving Kerala's historic Malabar Coast, Parpanangadi Railway Station has been redeveloped at a cost of over ₹14 crore with modern station buildings, upgraded waiting halls, improved platforms, enhanced passenger information systems and divyangjan-friendly facilities. The station's transformation supports tourism, coastal connectivity and the region's growing travel needs.

Nilambur Road Railway Station 
Located at the terminus of the scenic Shoranur–Nilambur branch line, Nilambur Road Railway Station serves as the gateway to the lush forests, teak plantations and eco-tourism destinations of Malappuram district. Redeveloped at a cost of about ₹17 crore, the station now features a modern station building, upgraded waiting halls, improved platform infrastructure, enhanced passenger amenities, Divyangjan-friendly facilities and digital passenger information systems, offering a safer, more comfortable and convenient travel experience while promoting tourism and regional connectivity.

Chalakudi Railway Station
Located on the Shoranur–Mangaluru railway corridor, Chalakudi Railway Station serves as the gateway to the world-famous Athirappilly and Vazhachal Waterfalls. Redeveloped at a cost of about ₹8.87 crore, the station now features an upgraded station building, improved waiting halls, modern passenger information systems, enhanced accessibility and better circulating areas, boosting passenger convenience and eco-tourism.

Angamali for Kaladi Railway Station 
Serving as the principal rail gateway to Kaladi, the birthplace of Adi Shankaracharya, Angamali for Kaladi Railway Station has been redeveloped with an improved station building, a new portico, an air-conditioned waiting hall, upgraded platforms, and enhanced passenger amenities. The redevelopment strengthens pilgrimage tourism, regional connectivity and provides a more comfortable travel experience for passengers visiting one of Kerala's most revered spiritual destinations.

Stations outside Kerala
Chennai Park Railway Station
Strategically located adjacent to Dr MGR Chennai Central, Chennai Park serves as a key suburban interchange connecting Chennai's extensive Suburban, MRTS, Metro and City bus networks. Redeveloped at a cost of ₹14 crore, the station now offers upgraded passenger amenities including modern booking offices, improved waiting areas, lifts, enhanced platform shelters and digital passenger information systems, strengthening seamless multimodal urban connectivity.

Chinnasalem Railway Station 
Serving the rapidly developing Kallakurichi district, Chinnasalem Railway Station has been redeveloped at a cost of over ₹15 crore, with a renovated station building, a new waiting hall, a booking office, a Foot Over Bridge with lifts, upgraded platforms, and modern passenger amenities. The redevelopment strengthens regional connectivity and supports the area's agricultural, educational and commercial growth.

Coonoor Railway Station 
Nestled in the picturesque Nilgiri Hills, Coonoor Railway Station is an important halt on the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Nilgiri Mountain Railway. Redeveloped at a cost of over ₹12 crore, the station now offers improved waiting halls, upgraded platforms, enhanced accessibility, modern passenger information systems and heritage-sensitive infrastructure, providing a comfortable travel experience while preserving its historic character.
