Textbooks to be distributed before May 15: Kerala Edu Minister

Thiruvananthapuram: The first volume of the school textbooks for the upcoming academic year would be distributed by May 15, Education Minister V Sivankutty has said. Free uniforms too would be handed over by this date, he added.

Other decisions

Allotment of Rs 10 lakh each to 440 schools to arrange activity areas in recognized pre-primary schools by including the project in the 100-day action plan being implemented as part of the second anniversary of the state government.

As many as 328 pre-primary schools will receive Rs 1 lakh each to buy kids-friendly toys and furniture. A Rs 11.09-crore project to provide digital facilities in pre-primary schools.

A two-year training programme will be launched for 25 socially and economically backward higher secondary students belonging to each district. Distribution of LSS and USS scholarships resumed after four years.

Midday meal scheme

The Minister said that all the Central arrears for the midday meal scheme have been received and an amount of Rs 147 crore is currently available as allotment by Centre and state. “This money will be utilized to pay the wages of cooking staff and clear the arrears for schools,” he said.
