Kerala-style fish curry

Fish Curry

Fish cooked in fried coconut paste will make a meal a real treat. Here is a recipe of it. Any fish can be prepared this way - mackerel or seer.

Ingredients
1/2kg mackerel (any fish)
1/2cup grated coconut
20 shallots or 1 big onion
4 garlic cloves
One piece ginger
3 green chillies or as per taste
1 tomato
1big piece of pot tamarind
1/4tbs chilli powder
2 tbsp coriander powder
1/4 tbsp turmeric powder
1/4tbsp fenugreek powder
3sprigs of curry leaves
4tbsp coconut oil
Salt to taste

Preparation
To an earthen pot, add grated coconut and sauté well. Add chilli powder, coriander powder and turmeric powder to it and sauté again and put it aside.
To the pot add coconut oil. Add the chopped onion or shallots to it and sauté well.
Add the sliced ginger, garlic, green chillies and curry leaves to it. Add chopped tomatoes to it and cook.
Grind the fried coconut and the sautéed mixture with little water.
Transfer the paste to the pan and add the pot tamarind to it. Cook it in medium flame for 5 minutes. Add fish pieces to it.
Add fenugreek powder and twirl the pot. Stir it in between and cook for 10 minutes.
Switch the flame off and pour coconut oil and a curry leaves to it and it is ready to be served.
