Onam special – Vadukapuli pickle

Vadukapuli (wild lemon) pickle which is popularly known as curry naranga is a special dish that is sweet, spicy and a bit bitter too. Check out the pretty simple recipe for vadukapuli pickle.

Ingredients
1 wild lemon (around 750 gms – 1 kg)
Salt as required
200 – 250 gms chilli powder
2 tsp asafetida powder
4 tbsp sesame oil
20 – 30 gms mustard seeds
5 sprigs of curry leaves

Preparation
Wash the wild lemon and cut it into small pieces with the skin
Rub salt generously on these lemon pieces
Heat sesame oil in a pan
Roast the asafetida powder
Turn off the flame before adding chilli powder. Mix well
Pour this mixture into the wild lemon pieces
Mix well until all the pieces are covered in the chilli oil
Heat some more sesame oil and splutter mustard seeds Add some curry leaves too
Add this tempering into the pickle
Mix well. Vadukapuli pickle is ready
Note: In case you want the pickle to have looser consistency, add some boiled and cooled water.
