Thamarassery police on Saturday arrested a 26-year-old man in connection with the death of a young woman. The accused, Amal Benny, 26, has been charged with abetment to suicide.

Sanjana Krishna (23) from Ambalakkunnu, near Koodathayi Bazaar, was found hanging in her house on September 11. She was employed at a private hospital in Koduvally. According to the probe team, the accused had allegedly threatened Sanjana, saying he would harm her and her family, which drove her to take the extreme step.
The Kodenchery police initially handled the case.

The accused was arrested after assessing evidence, including digital proof. Hours before she took the extreme step, she forwarded some of Amal's threatening messages to her relative. " She was in a relationship with the accused. Later, she decided not to continue with the relationship. So, everybody thought that the break-up might have depressed her and led her to take an extreme step. Recently, her parents noticed Amal's voice messages, which were toxic in tone. He threatened to kill her, her father, and her uncle," said Thamarassery DySP P Pramod
Amal was booked thrice for criminal activities. " Till the parents came across those messages, nobody was aware of threats from Amal," the DySP added. Amal reportedly sent 17 voice messages to Sanjana. Though her mobile phone was locked, her parents were able to present it before the investigating officers as she had forwarded the messages to her relative. Sanjana is survived by her father, K C Chandran, a daily wage worker and mother, Raji A K, an Anganwadi teacher and a younger brother.
