From Thursday, services with regard to issuance of learner's licence, renewal of driving licence, application for duplicate copy of lost licence, effecting changes in the name, photo, address, or correction in the date of birth went totally online.
Amendment to the rules related to Accredited Driver Training Centres has been notified by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
The irregularities came to light after migrant workers passed the test by taking it in Malayalam and secured licences.
The RTOs are certain to witness a long queues of candidates to take the learner’s test from August 22 onwards.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic struck, tests for learner’s licence were conducted at the RTO and sub-RTO offices. However, the government had allowed the online method as part of the containment measures against the disease.
Minister Antony Raju said the action has become essential in the wake of increase in crimes using vehicles.
The sessions will be on traffic education, basic engineering of vehicles, steps to be taken during the golden hour, road etiquette etc.
