Wayanad’s forest authorities and partners trained two hundred locals, mostly tribal members, to convert invasive lantana weeds into biochar, successfully tackling an ecological threat while generating sustainable livelihoods and improving agricultural soil health.
Indian researchers Indu Treasa Jochan and Dr E. I. Anila secured a patent for developing an eco-friendly, energy-efficient method to fabricate zinc gallate thin films on glass, enhancing optoelectronic device performance.
"These aren't even the most expensive ones; we have specimens priced at ₹10 lakh and ₹15 lakh," says Sunil Joseph, owner of Plant Story.
Officials highlight that this eco-friendly initiative serves a vital dual purpose. It ensures a consistent supply of premium-grade construction sand at affordable, fair prices, bringing stability to the regional building industry.

The initiative was founded by four architect friends, Visakha G Raj, Irin Joseph, Maria P Joy, and Martin S Koickal, soon after the success of their 'KAI-MAATAM', which promotes thrifting clothing and accessories
