Kerala's Census 2027 begins July 1 with a digital self-enumeration option from June 16, collecting housing details via 33 questions before a population count in February 2027.

The second phase, Population Enumeration, will be held in February 2027, with March 1, 2027, fixed as the reference date.

Until 2011, Census data were recorded on paper and later digitised — a process that was both time-consuming and prone to errors. The 2027 Census will be entirely digital.
Citizens will also have the opportunity to submit their information themselves via the web portal during the Houselisting and Housing Census (HLO) and the Population Enumeration (PE) phases.
The census will use October 1, 2026, as the official reference date for snow-covered areas in the country.
