Rich and creamy fish mappas

Fish mappas is a delicious Kerala dish that is cooked in creamy coconut milk. It makes a winning combination with soft and fluffy appam. Check out the pretty simple recipe for fish mappas.

Ingredients
750 gm fish fillets
2 tsp ginger (finely chopped)
6 garlic cloves
6 green chillies
1 onion
6 shallots
½ tsp fenugreek
Curry leaves as required
2 tomatoes (1 sliced and 1 diced)
3 cardamom pods
3 cinnamon sticks
3 cloves
2 tsp coconut oil
½ tsp turmeric powder
½ tsp mustard seeds
1 ½ tsp coriander powder
2 tsp chilli powder
½ tsp pepper powder
First and second extracts of coconut milk
1 small Malabar tamarind

Preparation
Heat coconut oil in an earthen vessel and splutter fenugreek seeds
Then add the mustard seeds, cardamom, cinnamon and cloves
Sauté well
Sauté ginger, garlic and green chillies
Into it add the tomato 
Cook until they are nice and mushy
Now add turmeric powder, chilli powder and pepper powder
Sauté until the raw smell of the powders are gone
Pour in the second extract of coconut milk
Add the cleaned fish fillets when the gravy heats up nicely
Add the Malabar tamarind and salt
Cook for 20 minutes with the lid on
Reduce the flame and add the first extract of coconut milk
Finally add curry leaves, tomato slices and 2 tsp coconut oil as well
Turn off the flame and keep the mappas aside for 3-5 minutes with lid on
Enjoy tasty fish mappas.
