Soft and tasty vellayappam can be easily prepared without adding any yeast. Here is the recipe.

Ingredients
2 cups or 500 ml raw rice
3 tbsp urad dal
1 cup grated coconut
1 cup boiled rice
8 shallots
3 cloves garlic
½ tsp cumin

Preparation
Soak the washed raw rice and urad dal for at least 6 hours
Grind the soaked raw rice and urad dal with grated coconut and boiled rice
Keep this batter aside for at least 8 hours for it to rise
After 8 hours, add crushed shallots, garlic and cumin into the batter
Add salt and sugar as required
Mix well
Pour a ladle full of batter on a greased pan and cook on both sides
Enjoy soft vellayappam with vegetable stew or meat curries.
