Wayanad: As the intensity of rain in Wayanad reduced, the red alert in the district was withdrawn on Saturday.

Shutters of both the dams – Banasura Sagar dam and Karappuzha dam – have also been lowered.

While the shutters of Banasura Sagar dam were brought down to 30 cm (10 cm, 10 cm and 10 cm each), the three shutters of the Karapuzha dam were lowered to 15 cm, 20 cm and 20 cm.

The opening of the Banasura Sagar spillway was reduced to 30 cm from 65 cm on Saturday morning. One of its four shutters is fully closed now.

Karappuzha dam assistant engineer Wilson OV said on Friday the shutters were opened by 30 cm, though it was earlier decided to lower them fully. However, the decision to close the shutters was changed later, and the three shutters were lowered to 15 cm, 20 cm and 20 cm.

Traffic restored

Traffic along Wayanad and Kuttyadi passes (churams) have been restored. The KSRTC is also conducting services from Kalpetta depot to Thrissur. Vehicular traffic along Mysuru-Bathery path has also been restored. However, heavy vehicles have been banned on Nadukani churam, where a crack was spotted.

However, authorities have warned that Pancharakolli in Mananthavady where a landslide had occurred earlier this week continues to be vulnerable.
