Hello
In India, bird flu or avian influenza is spread mainly by migratory birds coming into the country during the winter months between September and March. The disease is zoonotic.
Central teams have been deployed to visit the affected states of Kerala, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh for monitoring and for epidemiological investigation.
Thousands of chickens and ducks were culled in Alappuzha and Kottayam districts in Kerala to contain the spread of the H5N8 avian influenza strain.
The Influenza A virus, H5N8, has been detected in four Kuttanad panchayats in Alappuzha (Thalavady, Edathua, Pallippad and Thazhakkara) and Neendoor in Kottayam.
Pet birds, including poultry, are being culled in large numbers and carcass burnt in regions vulnerable to bird flu.
So far, no cases of avian flu in humans were reported from the state this year.
