The main reason for the Vento being in news yet again is its new looks even though its engine was downsized some time back from a 1.6 litre unit to a 1.5 litre one. The latest version has also undergone some cosmetic changes.

The Passat look

This Vento looks more like a smaller version of Volkswagen’s luxury car Passat. A few alterations to the grill and the headlamps are the major changes in design.

Looks

The car looks great and the new double barrel headlamps and the newly designed alloy wheels add to the beauty of the car. The highline model comes with 15-inch alloy wheels. The European design makes the Vento look elegant and not flashy. It looks practical from all angles.

Priority is practicality

The interiors also stick to the design theme that is predominantly practical in its approach. The interior is done up in dual tone and the plastics are of good quality and are in fine trim. The fabric seats look great, are comfortable and offer good support. Arm rests have been provided for both the front and back row passengers.

Taking care of rear seat passengers

When it comes to offering comfort, the Vento does not ignore its rear seat passengers either. The rear seats are big and offer great support to the thighs and back. Also, the front seat can be rolled forward or backward from the rear seat as well as from the front. Dedicated air conditioning vents for rear seat passengers have also been incorporated. Another useful feature is an adjustable reading lamp for the rear seat passengers.

Cruise Control

The manual version now also comes with the cruise control feature. The new sporty steering wheel looks awesome. The climate control feature and the dashboard integrated stereo are available only in the top end model. The light switch is placed to the right of the steering wheel on the dashboard, a characteristic German feature. The car comes with adjustable steering wheel and electronically adjustable wing mirrors.

The glove box is spacious enough while the steel rings on the air conditioning vents add to the elegance of the Vento’s interiors. The company fitted stereo is of great quality and is miles ahead of local brands in terms of sound quality. The front arm rests don’t come in the way while reaching for the handbrakes which is a good thing.

The New Heart

The old 1.6 litre common rail diesel four cylinder engine has been downsized by a fraction. The new 1.5 litre unit in no way is inferior to its predecessor. This unit delivers 105 bhp and 25.4 kilogram of torque. This diesel unit is pleasingly silent.

Behind the Wheel

The engine does not take long to impress you once behind the wheel. Turbo lag is almost not existent, while the icing on the cake is that this unit can be revved up like a petrol engine. The clutch felt a bit on the stiffer side though. The steering feel is good and it did not feel as hard as the ones usually found in European cars.

Fuel Efficiency

The latest Vento has a fuel efficiency of 22km per litre. For those who are looking for a diesel car that is as graceful as a Honda City, the Vento seems to perfectly fit their bill.

Pricing

The new Vento is available from Rs 9.44 lakh onwards. The petrol model comes with an automatic option fitted with a DSG gearbox. There is no automatic option available in the diesel version of the Vento as of now.
